As the sport of polo enjoys robust growth across Scandinavia—with increasingly extended seasons and heightened activity—the Copenhagen Polo Club is poised to lead this exciting evolution. The club announces that Stephen Schueler, a seasoned global executive and sports investor, has joined its ownership group and Board of Directors. This appointment is a pivotal moment in the club's ambitious trajectory, enhancing its international partnerships and accelerating its development in both sport and event programming.
Under this new structure, the club will amplify its calendar of premium sports and lifestyle events, forge stronger strategic alliances, and pioneer new opportunities for polo throughout the Nordic region. Home to Denmark’s national polo team and a regular host of prestigious international tournaments, the club operates year-round from the historic Lyngebækgård estate, north of Copenhagen.
Schueler brings over 25 years of executive leadership spanning global business, sports management, and sustainable investment. Currently, he serves as Managing Director for Green Transition on the Investment Advisory Board at European Maritime Finance (EMF), a Danish firm acclaimed for its sustainable maritime investments. His distinguished career includes senior roles at A.P. Moller – Maersk, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble.
In the sports world, Schueler is Co-Owner and Board Member of Nordic Storm, the first dual-country Nordic franchise in the NFL’s European Football Alliance. He also presides over The American Club of Denmark, a 105-year-old institution dedicated to fostering U.S.-Danish business and cultural ties. His personal connection to Denmark runs deep: his great-grandfather served as the United States Ambassador to Denmark from 1870 to 1881.
Schueler’s passion for polo was ignited during his time in Argentina, where he played at the legendary La Martina Polo grounds. “I am thrilled to partner with Christian Green and the entire Copenhagen Polo Club team,” Schueler remarked. “They have created something exceptional in Scandinavia—an incredible community that seamlessly blends sport, lifestyle, and networking. The club’s facilities at the pristine Lyngebækgård Estate near Nivå are spectacular, and I look forward to building upon this strong foundation.”
Founder Christian Green added, “We are delighted to welcome Stephen as a co-owner and board member. His global business acumen, passion for growing sports, and extensive network will be invaluable as we amplify our mission. Over the past decade, we have successfully established polo in Denmark, and we share a conviction that its potential for growth—both as a competitive sport and a cultural platform—is immense.”
Through this powerful collaboration, the Copenhagen Polo Club aims to broaden its portfolio of lifestyle and sporting events, cultivate deeper brand partnerships and international connections, and unlock a new era of growth for polo across the Nordic landscape.
